Communication Strategy on Socialization Healthy Food

Food, health, and communication are basic human needs. Unhealthy food or one that carelessly packaged will threatened human body. Unfortunately, most of Indonesian people don’t realize the hazardous from food that carelessly packaged. From that point, communications hold a very important part, especially when governments want to educate people about safety food.

It’s a normal thing for Indonesian people to wrap their food with plastic. Although plastic is very practical and not easily broken, but the it contains harmful chemicals that can stimulate cancer cell growth. Unfortunately, the socialization of the danger as the use of plastic food packaging is minimal, even the majority only through the mass media. Lack of socialization can be seen from many vendors who are still using plastic for food packaging. On the other hand, the buyers also did not question the material of food container.

This research was conducted to find out how the socialization of the danger of plastic for food packaging by National Agency for Drug and Food (BPOM). In a family, woman has a responsibility to buy, cook, and serve healthy food. Because of that, women must be the main target of safety food packaging socialization. This research is using the literature study methodology on gender approach. According to some literature analysis, we found that many researchers conclude that most people do not know the dangers of plastic as food packaging. If anyone knows, they still using plastic because of adverse effects on health plastic indirectly felt.

Based on these findings, researchers suggest three things: first, to relevant agencies, both BPOM and more intense the Department of Health to disseminate the hazardous of plastic. Second, the government should create a policy that prohibits the use of certain types of plastic containers for food packaging. Third, there should be a warning label about the content of plastic materials in food packaging.
